Subject: RE: [East2] RCR, DNF From: (David C Lawrence) Date: Wed, 2 Jul 2003 17:22:06 -0400 (EDT) Sorry to hear about your troubles, but something seems terribly apropos about that bike being the one that bit it. The list has been strangely quiet since the RCR, so this is probably a good time to thank Sharon, Martyn and Melanie for what they did to make it happen when Jim got called up. Jan and I had a wonderful, relaxing weekend (mostly, except for one brief adrenaline-producing moment). The location was beautiful. I went back to Jan's near Burlington, NC, on Sunday with a nice ride up the Blue Ridge (hah hah, I just typo'd that as Blur Ridge, but on Sunday it was actually a very moderate paced ride) and then over 421 back to Burlington, NC. The next morning it was a 900 mile trek of mostly highways but another 70 miles of the Blue Ridge to get home to north Vermont. Route 17 is an interesting new challenge in the dark. Thanks to delays talking to both my divorce lawyer and my travel agent, I ended up home just after midnight on Monday night. Unfortunately the good vibe of the weekend didn't carry over into the week. This morning I signed the final divorce agreement, which was reached in no small part based on the fact that I had a decent paying job (and even so, the settlement was really against me; long story). Two hours after signing I got a call from my VP that I am among the 25% of my company laid off today. Whee.
