Subject: RE: [East2] RCR, DNF From: Mike DiTullio Date: Wed, 2 Jul 2003 10:57:11 -0400 (EDT) Another bike DNF. Yes, the bike voted Least Likely To Be Stolen, died about 120 miles north of the campsite on our return trip. And what really pisses me off is that it appears (from roadside testing with a multimeter) that the new stator I put in last Sunday is the culprit. So now it's the bike that can't be stolen. We had to hole up in a hotel in Little Switzerland for the rest of the day and wait for Tom Biggs (big round of applause) to get Sandra's minivan down to NC so we could shove the bike in the back of it. And to say the management of the MountainViewMotel ( http://www.mountainviewmotel.com/ ) were helpful would be an understatement. Checkout time was 11am, we were told not to worry about it and if Tom needed a nap or a shower when he arrived then go for it. The motel's restaurant is closed on Mondays so they went out and bought us peanut butter, jelly and bread so we could have breakfast. We left little switzerland around 4:30 and made it just south of Roanoke were we stayed at a Days Inn. Did you know you can stay in a hotel for less than the cost of a KOA Kozy Kabin? The next morning Sandra and Tom took the van back to NJ via slab and Blake and I headed north via backroads. We had a nice ride back, albeit one day later, and even managed to stay dry the whole way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike DiTullio mikedt@pobox.com http://www.ilovepoutine.com "These 115mph passes are becoming all too common" 1-800-AMA-JOIN 98 GTI, 89 HawkGT,95 ST1100 STOC#105, DOD#2202 --------------------------------------------------------------------------
