Subject: RCR XI Report From: Jim Kerick Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 11:57:00 -0400 To: TriDoD Carlos and I set out Friday to attend RCR XI outside of Harrisonburg, VA. For all that do not know what a RCR is, please see http://foreven.com/motorcycles/rcr.htm for some information. Carlos set a route that went, basically, up to Roxboro, past VIR, into VA on some very kewl and twisty roads. After a bit of slab, it was onto the BRP and then the Skyline Drive. Got off the Skyline about 30 some miles from the campground. Using this route it was 400+ miles, a short route for Carlos The campground, a KOA, was very good. The weather was perfect! Highs in the lower 80's, great sleeping weather in the 60's. Roads in western VA and West VA were great!! We road around 200'ish on Saturday, and returned via the same route on Sunday. There were over 30 DoD members from Ohio, Mass, PA, NJ, Del, NC, VA, DC and a few other places. Lots of riding during the day and glorious lies of riding in the evening around the campfire. Dave McElvain was the Oompah, picking out the location, arranging the campsites and cabins, and the dinner on Saturday night. Saturday the official acceptance speech of the next Oompah was done, "What the hell, I'll do it." If you never attended a RCR, I highly recommend it as a way to spend 3 days riding and meeting fellow bike scum for laughs.
