Subject: [east] Virginia highway laws From: "Mr. Bill" Date: Mon, 17 Jun 2002 20:50:55 -0400 For those of you headed to the RCR who haven't spent much time riding in Virginia, let me point out a couple of the state's finer laws. One is probably pretty well known, the other... 1) Radar detectors are illegal in VA. It and Wash. DC hold the distinction of being the only two places in the US where this is true. Hopefully you have a quick dismount fixture and an open tankbag pocket at the ready. For out-of-state'rs, I *think* they'll mail it back to your home address after they confiscate it. But that's just an unsubstantiated rumor I've heard, I've no idea of how factual it is. You may lose your V1 for good... 2) If you get tagged for 20-over or better, you'll get ticketed for Reckless Driving. That's Aut-O-Matic in Virginia, unless you can sweet talk the cop down to 19-over. Set the throttle governors on +18... Luckily it's just a short hop over to West-By-Gawd-Virginia, which typically has finer roads and less Draconian laws... Mr. Bill
