Subject: US 211 warning (was VA 211 warning) From: Joe Ogulin Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2001 11:56:39 -0400 >> Yep. Rt. 211 looks nice on the map, and it's not bad. However, it's a major >> squid zone, with multiple accidents & tickets & heavy enforcement on a regular >> basis. There's a lot of other nice stuff in the area (Jon Kadis found Moyers >> Gap Rd. in May, and it's a real treat) that you should look for in place of 211. >> >> I'm glad your chat with VA's finest turned out to be uneventful. To the best of my knowledge, there is no VA 211... there is a US 211. The way I heard it from some folks near me... the cops are usually out in Thornton Gap (US 211 through the Shenandoahs) on the weekends because of all the squids. It wasn't that way a couple of years ago... but then again last time I was out that way (maybe the time before that), someone went off the road on the east side of the Gap before going into the mountains (before it becomes two lanes going uphill)... as you enter the national park. So where is Moyers Gap Rd? I've been doing some riding lately heading out towards Harper's Ferry on VA 9 (which becomes WV 9)... and going further on... found a nice road along side the Shenandoah River's west bank that takes you from WV 9 to US 340... --Joe -- "There's no point in growing up if you can't be childish sometimes."
