Subject: Re: Maps From: Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 00:52:41 -0400 Speaking of GPS, perhaps some of you have heard of the Degree Confluence project at http://www.confluence.org. It is a photo essay of all the spots on land where the latitude and longitude intersect as perfect integers -- the minutes and seconds are all zeros. (Certain details excluded, see the web site for more info.) Anyway, I've been visiting some of these spots (http://www.dd.org/~tale/confluences/) as a way to have something of personal interest in all of my business travels, and it dovetails well with me being a map geek. While it wasn't planned this way, I was pleased to discover that the RCR site is somewhat near the 38th parallel, and that the two closest confluences to it are the only two that have not been successfully done in West Virginia. It's quite possible one or both will have been attained within the next two months, but currently I'm planning on trying to bag them both on Saturday the 7th. I'd welcome anyone who wants to come along.
