Get thee to Bloomsbury by any county route. There are several good ones. Follow 579 South to Ringoes. Take the 90-degree left (not the hairpin left) onto Wertsville Road. Cross 202. After the corkscrew S-curve (downhill left, then right, that can be taken at DOD Cornering Speed with the right bike, tires, and rider), there's a straightaway, then a slight righthand kink. Slow down for the kink. Just after the kink, turn right. This road becomes Greenfield St. in Hopewell. Follow it to the traffic light and turn left. Now you're on 518. Follow 518 all the away across 206 and go through Rocky Hill. After crossing the D&R Canal, turn right at the light and go past the quarry. Cross Route 27. You'll go down a hill and come to a stop sign. Go straight. Now you're on 522. Follow 522 all the way to Englishtown. Turn right at the light. Go through the next light, around the lefthand sweeper, and take the first right. You're on 527. Follow 527 across 33. Eventually, you come to a stop sign where 527 turns left. Follow it. At the stoplight, turn right. You're on 537. Follow 537 past Great Adventure. Look for 539 South. When you find it, turn left. Follow this ruler-straight road through the Pine Barrens, past Ft. Dix. At this point, I don't have the rest of the route handy, but (Joe O.?) others can give you a fun route to Cape May. At Cape May, take the ferry to Lewes, Delaware. Now you have a lot of left-right jogging to do across Maryland, but if you do it right, you'll get to White's Ferry. Take that across the Potomac to Virginia. The access road then takes you to U.S. 15, which is a rural two-lane at that point. Follow 15 down to Culpepper (I think) and get on U.S. 29 South. Take that to Charlottesville. Turn right onto U.S. 250 and go up to the BRP. At the BRP, turn left, and ride all the way to North Carolina. You want to turn left onto U.S. 441. From there, I don't know the rest of the directions, but around Ferguson, you turn from 441 onto some really fun backroads. If you get lost and find yourself headed for Turkey Tom's by mistake, beware HoJo's Curve. > To which Blake responded, spaking thusly: > > Well, Mr. Bill "Grasshopper" Leavitt mocked me for posing just that > > question, > > Ahh, and so it begins... :-) > > As I explained to Blake, I subscribe to PoPs' philosophy on route planning: > If there's more than 24 hours before leaving it's too early to plan routes. Pishtush! The three of us usually started hashing things out about 72 hours before departure, and finalized the route as we went along. :-) Chrispy
