Subject: Directions to the camp Date: Mon, 1 Jun 1998 23:23:38 -0400 (EDT) From: "Mr. Bill" Reply-To: east@dnrc.bell-labs.com To: Multiple recipients of list Here are the directions to Camp West Mar that I posted two years ago for RCR-V. I didn't get any queries for more help or complaints so they must have been good enough... And now, the question that is on everybody's fingertips... ================== HOW TO GET TO RCR-VII ================== >From points SOUTH/EAST: Head towards Frederick, Maryland. Get onto US-15 north, towards Thurmont, and proceed 16 miles. (After 15 miles, at Mile Marker 28, note the Mountain Gate Restaurant on the right. This is a good place for dinner Friday, and where most participants at RCR-IV went that night.) Get off of US-15 at Thurmont onto MD-77 West, towards Hagerstown. Go west for 7 miles. Turn left onto Brown Road. There is a fork in Brown Road as soon as you get onto it, stay on the paved road to the right (right, Martyn? ;-). After 0.3 mile, turn left into Camp West Mar. There is a sign there but it appears rather suddenly, so be prepared. It's a dirt/gravel road into camp and is about a quarter mile long. There were some shallow ruts and potholes in it when I was out there last Friday, so be careful. The bunkhouses and pavillion are on the right. >From points NORTH/EAST: Work your way cross-country to US-15, there are some great roads out there. 8-) Cross into Maryland. After ~9 miles get off at Thurmont onto MD-77 West and follow the SOUTH/EAST directions above. If you're more into slabbing, head for Baltimore, get onto I-70 West to Frederick, follow the signs to US-15 north and proceed as per the above SOUTH/EAST directions from there. >From points WEST: Head toward Hagerstown, Maryland. From I-70, get onto MD-66 at Exit 35. Take MD-66 north towards Smithsburg for 5 miles. At the light, turn right onto MD-64 East. Go 2 miles east on MD-64 and turn right onto MD-77 East. Proceed east on MD-77 for 3 miles to Brown Road. Turn right onto Brown Road and stay to the right at the fork that appears immediately before you. Still not certain how to get there, confused by my directions, etc? Send me some email and I'll try to help. Mr. Bill -- DoD #224, UB #8, KotFMLO Ubi non accusator, ibi non judex denizen@erols.com
