Subject: Right Coast Ride - Saturday Lunch ride Date: Mon, 20 Apr 1998 11:34:03 -0400 (EDT) From: cervi@dt.navy.mil (Mark Cervi) Reply-To: east@dnrc.bell-labs.com To: Multiple recipients of list For those on the Baltimore mailing list, The 7th Annual DoD Right Coast Ride (RCR VII) is scheduled for the weekend of 6 June 1998 at Camp WestMar near Thurmont, MD. I drove around South Mountain and Harpers Ferry two weeks ago with the wife and her sister-in-law (visiting from Austria). We drove down some nice back roads around Harpers Ferry and Sharpsberg. I wish I was on a bike instead of in the car. We went along the river between Harpers Ferry and Shepardstown WV, and I would like to go back. That said, for the RCR I will volunteer to set up a short "back road" ride, stopping in Harpers Ferry to eat lunch, and looping up around the river and back to Westmar. (There is a nice place to eat in Shepardstown - the Bavarian Inn - but its a little Ritz'y for this crowd.) I can map it out for individuals to go, or ride with a group. This is designed as a easy "tourist" ride. For the foot peg scraping ride, contact Mr Bill. It shouldn't be more than 100 miles, for those riders who wish to rest up for a long return trip on Sunday. Nothing like the "Covered Bridge Tour", that Dave Lawrence arranged a few years ago. ===== If anyone is interested, BMW/BMW has their annual "Square Route" rally at Westmar the week before us. They all have soft butts, so arrive Friday night if you want a cabin bunk. :-) For more info on the Square Route Rally see - http://www.bmwbmw.org/98SquareRoute/98SquareRoute.htm SPECIAL GUEST LECTURER, Ron Ayres, Author, Against the Wind "Hear the riveting story of Ron's 6th place finish in the 1995 Iron Butt, the world's toughest motorcycle competition!" (The 1993 Iron Butt Rally Winner was Steve Attwood riding a Moto Guzzi 850 LeMans. I met him at the first, and only, MD/DC/VA local Moto Guzzi rally also at Camp WestMar, before he returned to England with his bike. He finished the last 120 miles running on one cylinder after an ignition coil died. See http://www.ironbutt.com/93attwod.html) Mark Cervi
