RCR-IV was held in almost constant heavy rain, including the ride there and the ride back; the rain let up briefly, away from the rapidly-named Campe Wetmar (Westmar, in real life), to allow a nice ride on Saturday -- although we had to get through a few miles of dense fog (as in about 10 feet visibility at best) and hard drizzle to find the drier weather. It's entirely possible that RCR-VI will have the highest non-precipitating humidity, but it'd be hard to beat RCR-IV's rain. :-) Most of the rest of your comments have been answered well enough by Ryan and Mr. Bill. I'll just talk about the Oompah so-called title and how one gets to be it. > I don't need > to worry anyway, 'cause I'm not Elder enough. Next year's Oompah > will again be someone who was in from the beginning. The Oompah for RCR-I had never been to an RCR, and currently he's batting around 50%. The "title" Oompah was first used at RCR-III (I think it was III) by someone's malapropism; they meant grand poobah, and like most DoD things (and the DoD itself, of course) it was a joke that was never allowed to die. Oh, Mike! Where were you two years ago, when we were still scrambling six months before RCR-V to find someone to be Oompah? As I recall, in February, we still didn't know who was doing it or where it would be. Mr. Bill very graciously stepped up to the plate, thank goodness. I was actually very surprised to find that the Oompah's had come from the "attended all" list, that's why I posted about it. If there was some sort of secret cabal, I wouldn't have drawn attention to it, now, would I? ;-) OK, I'll call your bluff as well as the next guy. Want to do it next year? All you have to do is volunteer and be prepared to follow through with it. Mr. Bill posted the boundary guidelines, and the other information you're missing is that traditionally it's been held in June or July. You can draw on this list, or any other of the Oompahs, for their experience or advice, I'm sure. That's not a facetious comment, I mean it quite seriously. Seriously, the Oompah election process is this: someone says "I'll do it!" and doesn't back out when they realise what they just volunteered for. That's it. No-one selects the Oompah. If no-one's volunteered by October or so, the list gets nervous and starts discussing it. That's the full east list list, not some restricted subset. Even then it's not a matter of electing anyone, just eventually someone finally sighs, says "enough of this bandwidth monster, I'll do it!" and everyone's happy again. Mike, this ain't rec.moto. No-one's on a power trip. I for one am not flinging righteous indignation at you, I'm taking you seriously and responding seriously. I'm glad you care enough to put your comments to the list. BTW, there's nothing that says you have to ride to the RCR. I didn't even own a bike at the time of RCR-I, I came (and camped) in a Ford Aerostar. We're not snobs, we don't care how you get there or if you ride when you're there, that's not really important. If it's the riding *to* it that stops you, but you want to ride when you're there, why not find some folks in your area, get together with them, rent a UHaul trailer (which you could probably do for $30 or so), and share the driving and gas to get there? (I know there are plenty of reasons why you might not come if you want, they're none of my business, I just would really like everyone who wants to go to have the chance. I can't really tell from your posts (without tone of voice it's hard) whether you want to come but can't, or don't want to come.)
