Apparently it didn't work :-) so here's the serious answer: It's possible some of the newer folks don't know about the RCR... URL: http://www.mindspring.com/~tridod/events.htm#RCR In summary, the Right Coast Ride (aka RCR) is an annual motorcycle rally held somewhere in the mid-atlantic region of the US (a fairly generous interpretation of that). It originated out of the rec.motorcycles newsgroup, and the associated spin-off mailing lists (of which bikers@, the TriDoD, is one). This is the sixth annual one, hence it's RCR-VI. The "Club" that holds it is the Denizens of Doom, our "parent" club (I use quotes because those words imply organisation, which the DoD does not have). The rally is open to everyone, DoD member or not -- I'd guess half the attendees don't have a DoD number, some don't want one (hi, Amy!), and a large number of them don't even read rec.motorcycles any more. Some of them don't even own a motorcycle (for example, I didn't at the time of RCR-I). Anyway, the TriDoD has historically been one of the largest regional "groups" at pretty much every one of them. Last year in particular, we had a very large showing. Total attendence at the RCR is on the order of 50-100, depending on all sorts of factors; I'm guessing about 60 for this one (registrations are still coming in). This is basically an opportunity to get together with a bunch of other net-folks-on-bikes, some of which we've met before (the regular attendees), the others of which are just friends we haven't met yet. :-) The east-coast DoD is like the TriDoD in macroscale. Everyone is wonderfully friendly, great to hang out with, and has a great time. The RCR usually attracts folks from as far away as Florida, Canada, and Texas. As you would expect, bikes range from custom Harleys through full-out sport machines. If you're on the SBL, or seriders, or other m/c lists, the chances are there's someone there who you've emailed at some time or another. Often we've ridden from the Triangle to the RCR as a group -- that's where the "Chaos Warrior" phrase came from, along with the "Lowlands" and "Highlands" adjectives to describe group ride pace and style. In previous years, it's been in NC (twice), MD (twice), and WV. Generally it's been about a 300-350 mile ride to get there. This year I'm the Grand Oompah (the poor sucker who agrees to organise it, different person every year) and decided to move it to somewhere different. So it's in Western Kentucky, about 650 miles from here. Conveniently enough, though, we have some wonderful TriDoDers about halfway (Hi, Knoxville Contingent! :-) ). For me, the RCR is the high point of my riding each year. It is without question the most fun thing I do on a bike. I look forward to it each year, and when it's done, I start looking forward to the next one. :-) It's being held the weekend after the ERC, July 18-20, at Pennyrile State Resort Park, which is about 20 miles NW of Hopkinsville, KY (way out west). Cost, including dinner Saturday night, and camping Friday and Saturday night, is $35 ($25 if you won't be drinking beer). I'll be happy to post the registration info to this list if there's enough demand, otherwise email me and I'll be glad to send it to you. I'll also be *delighted* to chatter about it on or off the list. :-) Martyn --sasmjw@unx.sas.com--(Martyn Wheeler)--SAS Institute Inc.--DoD #293--- "Touch me with your soul, Bless me with your smile / traci lords Give to me all your love, Baby watch me fly, watch me fly!"
