Thanks. :-) >*it was absofrigginlutely hot on the way back. early morning from >thurmont south to cumberland was just golden; wonderful riding on great >roads with great weather. by about farmville, though, it was >astronomically hot. i even wound up ditching the suit for jeans and a >t-shirt for the last 100 miles, safety be damed. i felt like i was about >to pass out. I did the whole thing with denim jacket, jeans, t-shirt, shorty helmet, and sunblock. I even gave up on the gloves, which is something I've *never* ridden without until last weekend. One thing that *really* worked to keep me cool was a gel-crystal necktie. It's this tube thing with those crystals that absorb water to become a gel-like substance hundreds of times larger. It just holds the water and continues to keep the neck arteries cool. It makes a *world* of difference in keeping alert. >*there ain't nothing like ice cream on a hot day. nothin at all. Except maybe... um... No, you're right. :-) >*it'll be interesting to see where martyn has next year's rcr. i've heard >the rumors, but i won't spill a thing. It's no secret. It'll be east of the Mississippi and west of the Appalachians. The front-runner right now is Kentucky, although southern Illinois (Land Between The Lakes) is also a consideration. It depends on the site availability and the roads in the area. >*i'll second the "best newbie" award for marc krouse. dude, you sure hung >in there. now that you've passed the 'crack the whip' test, you're now >ready for the complementary tridod sponsored psychiatrist's session. ;-) I don't think we can really call Marc a newbie any more. ;-) Of course, that weekend was probably 20% of his lifetime riding mileage, eh Marc? :-) >all in all, a great trip. Agreed. :-) Martyn -------------sasmjw@unx.sas.com----(Martyn Wheeler)----DoD #293------------- SAS Institute, Inc: (919) 677-8000 ext.7954 H: (919) 677-0330 (Cary, NC) "I have a vision of a very calming place" -- single gun theory
