After the party and a nap. Sort of ditto -- I have a lot of work to do in far too short a time... But a summary: -- All in all, 1100 miles, including a dirt loop that I would not have taken if I'd have known all VA "circle-sign" roads go for 10 miles of dirt before saying "road ends 0.3 miles." Why couldn't they tell us sooner? -- On the way back, we stopped a lot, but had a good trip. On the return, I averaged around 58-59 mpg with the big Guzzi. Cool. -- I love my bike. -- I collected my first ever speeding ticket since I started riding in 1974 (89 in a 55, I was taking a photo at the time... but that's a longer story :-) ). -- Steve Garnier rides a little quicker than I am comfortable with, necessitating passes at speeds that with the right (wrong) wind conditions can cause a *major* headshake. He may have a small shaft, but he compensates well for it. ;-) -- I love my bike. I love riding the snot out of it in tight twisties. It handles fantastically, providing you commit fully to the corner and whack it WFO as soon as you're lined up on the apex. -- I love having excuses to ride my bike like a goose out of hell. Jean Scott (on her Trophy) and I *hauled* *ass* through some great tight roads to make a rendezvous with the other guys on our Break The Jinx Ride. -- Some days it's very hot. -- Camping is much better than cabins. :-) But above all, it was great to see everyone again. I didn't have a chance to talk to everyone, but I did make the rounds well enough. New to my list of must-seek-out-again were Sandy Triolo (*love* that cigar), Mike Ragsdale (a TriDoD but geographically challenged. Never did see the promised fart-lighting), Melinda Cherry (enthusiastic pillion on a bloody Shadow VLX, for crissakes!), and several people whose name I can't remember but whose faces I will recognise next time. Another RCR, yet more good friends made. I love it. :-) Martyn -------------sasmjw@unx.sas.com----(Martyn Wheeler)----DoD #293------------- SAS Institute, Inc: (919) 677-8000 ext.7954 H: (919) 677-0330 (Cary, NC) "I have a vision of a very calming place" -- single gun theory
