Return-Path: Date: Mon, 24 Jun 1996 14:38:53 -0400 From: Martyn Wheeler To: [TriDoD] Subject: Test and RCR (Quotes from same source, i.e. Andy via convoluted route) Other nominees are: >BestGrin: Mike Ragsdale after cruising hwy 45(??), wishing he could have >scraped pegs... Jean Scott after running that same road. We *hauled* *butt* coming through there. Jean is quick. As soon as she rolls on even more and sooner :-) , she'll be damned quick. Me too, after discovering the big Guzzi handles magnificently if you come in slow and use *full* throttle as soon as you can. Of course, it's an Italian bike, I should have guessed it required total commitment! >BestTentCampers: Grant and Charlotte, NEXT year. I'll loan 'em mine:-) >Either that or the unused ear plug award. Obviously, these folks live out >in the woods alone, and don't have anyone stay over. For the record, I >counted 15 snoring people at 4am this morning:-) :-) I slept very well indeed. ;-) >CoolestHighwayPegs: Martyn's Cali. Talk about an airconditioned seat:-) :-) >BestSport: Marc K. Didn't know he was a new rider, but her sure hung in >there on the way up like an old pro. If nothing else, after this weekend, >he should be a more confident rider for sure. Kewl black vulcan too.... Also nominated, Dave Nelson for riding 10 miles of unexpected dirt road on the CBR900RR. He may have bitched to Jean on the intercom (did he, I wonder?), but he sure as heck didn't bitch to me. Also for not giving me a hard time about the speeding ticket that evening, when I was cranky and ready to vent my anger. Also for being happy and cheerful the next day. He's pretty resilient, and gets my vote for BestSport. >BestShaft: Steve Garnier. Somehow I thought it would be bigger. No wonder >he went out and got a new one:-) Good to see the Lard have his revenge! Good indeed. Revenge is a dish best served greasy. :-) A summary: -- All in all, 1100 miles, including a dirt loop that I would not have taken if I'd have known all VA "circle-sign" roads go for 10 miles of dirt before saying "road ends 0.3 miles." Why couldn't they tell us sooner? -- On the way back, we stopped a lot, but had a good trip. On the return, I averaged around 58-59 mpg with the big Guzzi. Cool. -- I love my bike. -- I hate the WV state trooper who gave me my first speeding ticket since I started riding in 1974 (89 in a 55, it's a long (and rather funny, now) story :-) ). I also hope I come to love the lawyer in Charles Town I just retained to get it reduced. -- Steve Garnier rides a little quicker than I am comfortable with, necessitating passes at speeds that with the right (wrong) wind conditions can cause a *major* headshake. He may have a small shaft, but he compensates well for it. ;-) -- I love my bike. I love riding the snot out of it in tight twisties. It handles fantastically, providing you commit fully to the corner and whack it WFO as soon as you're lined up on the apex. -- I love having excuses to ride my bike like a goose out of heck. Jean Scott (on her Trophy) and I *hauled* *ass* through some great tight roads to make a rendezvous with the other guys on our Break The Jinx Ride. -- Jean is a pretty damned good rider. -- Some days it's very hot. That's cool. Some time I'll have time for a long version, or maybe it'll just have to be oral tradition at BS on Thursday.
