June 23-25 is a clear choice. Location: I did not receive one solid 'no'; however, I did get 3 'prefer a new place, but Westmar will do'. Most other responses tended toward Westmar is a great place...it just rains a bit too much sometimes. 2) What this means ------------------ RE:PLACE I mentioned before my concerns about getting a place early given the large number of RCR Denizens and their tendency to not shower after a long day of riding. If no place was found by the first week of March, we likely would end up with mediocre place or running around at the last minute to get things organized. RE:Where's the Oom-pah? We are currently waiting for Brian Casper to finish checking out options for other RCR locations, but I haven't heard anything from him recently. (I'll send him an Email and find out the status). If nothing happens on his side and nobody else (Martyn?) has a firm plan on where to go and the exact RCR date by March 22, then I'll get Jim to book Westmar for June 23-25. (Jim, do you think March 22 is too late?). If nobody bigger than me has a problem with this plan, and there are no other Oom-pah hopefuls stepping forward, then I'll handle getting all the RCR pieces together. (I did this on a smaller scale for the DoD Canadian Assault 0.0, but it's no worse than managing my current project from hell). Of course, because I'm up here in the frozen north of Canada this will require a moderate amount of delagation and a brain dump from Jim. I'll keep you updated on any RCR stuff I get. Until then, please talk amoungst yourselves :-) 3) Voter Comments ----------------- jean (scotje@aur.alcatel.com) plan it and they will come if u give too many options, it will be a ROYAL pita (believe me, i know - i coordinated the tridod shirts =:-O !!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dane (Dane_Walther@brown.edu) While it is always nice to go to a new place, I agree with you that it is getting desperately late for someone to start organizing from scratch, and Westmar was actually pretty nice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike DiTullio I like WetMar just fine. Good accomodations great roads. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Woodbridge Wetmar is great! I would be happy to go there again. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Lawrence I would prefer to go to a new place because I like to explore new lands and I don't mind travelling to do it. Westmar is quite close to home, relatively speaking. Closer than any other DoD event I've been on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jon Kadis June 21-23 - This one (Barely any words...I guess he saves those for sleeping :-) M.B.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Sutter My reasons for liking We[s]t Mar 5) We didn't get hassled 4) It's not too far away 3) It's big enough, has a pavilion, and doesn't force you to drag along camping gear 2) The roads around there are grrrreat! 1) I have better rain gear this year ;-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brian Downey I'd say that leaves us with June 21 -23. That's my vote. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Back-roads Holbrook Yo Beav! Any weekend other than 6/14-16 is dory-hunky w/ me. Camp Wet Dream is OK, too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Julie Holm We have seen positive response re: hosting the thing, but the only real organization is coming from people who are interested in hosting at Wetmar (:-)). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr.Bill As long as it's not the *same* weekend as the NECDoDSF or CA and falls somewhere in between them, I'll be there! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howard Carson Place: WM Dates: E) Any of the above will do nicely, thanks. Hmm, OTOH, it *would* be nice to go to Loudon. :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jim Groh (Winner of the Iron Butt, longest distance award) Any date but August, I am out west for Sturgis etc........ Get out the cheeze boyz and girlz cause I am going to wine.... Actually as I look at my incredible iron butt award I guess I should be kinder, gentler.. It would be nice a little farther south, granted 1100 miles is just a days ride for you young whipper snappers but those of us working on the last half of a 100 years tend to wear out faster. Just an observation, Lou and I will do our best to show up, regardless of where you hide it!!! Looking forward to Martyn's incredible imitation of sobriety and the rest of the RCR Mythos... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Walt Dabell June sounds good to me. I think WV or KY, TN would be a great place to have it, but I haven't a clue where. Wetmar sounds OK. Good beer close by, good food, good roads, good coffee (hi Ian!), and best of all, good company. Who cares where we have it as long as we can get together and harrass the Duc riders :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ravi (most excellent, keeper of the east list) oh!! that hurts!!! man! not only did i have to ride down in the rain in the middle of the night on 95, to meet a bunch of no-good bikerscum like you folks, and then ride down to n.c and back to n.j, on a ducati, now i have to hear this! but now that you said it... i am getting ideas... if only i could afford a trailer... btw, we are not officially open yet to bets on whether ravi will really show up or not! i believe pops and howardC might have some serious money to invest there ;-). i do think i will make it this time... west mar sounds fine with me, and any weekend is quite ok. probably the best thing to do at this time is to appoint a czar in-charge-of-deciding-on-the-date, while we hunt for a grand oompah. and no i am not volunteering for either position. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Martyn Wheeler If a solid commitment is what you want, I will commit to do Grand Poobah for RCR-V. My style, however, will be to organise it unilaterally as I think is the best, rather than spend a lot of time and bandwidth on vote-taking. I'll undoubtedly piss off some people and delight others, but that'll happen anyway whether it's democratic or dictatorial, and I'm prepared to take the flak for it. If I do it, I'll probably not choose Westmar because I would like Jim to do RCR-VI there next year... I think he wants another shot at it because of the awful weather last time, and I think he deserves it. I don't want to pre-empt his ground. Why don't you email a few folks and unilaterally select a PooBah from those who express a firm "I will do it"? 10) I want to go on a ride that doesn't include an hour waiting for a UHaul. 9) This year I have a SPORTBIKE and want to use it. 8) I didn't try to hit on *all* the babes last year (did I?) 7) I didn't try to hit on *any* of the guys last year (did I?) 6) I don't remember what most of Jim's excellent beers tasted like. 5) I remember what Goldschlager tastes like and wish I didn't. 4) Damn fine coffee 3) I want to meet for the first time all the people I met for the first time last year. 2) That excellent dirt road that you turn onto by following the directions. 1) I hear Harley-Davidson is going to file a copyright suit for the "potato-potato" snoring in my cabin.
