Subject: RCR Dates, other info, inquiry... From: Mechanic of Xanadu Date: Wed, 8 Dec 1999 09:47:52 -0500 (EST) I'm still considering options for RCR-Y2K(IX) (and working hard to lengthen theacronym... :-), and I have a few questions -- fell free to respond to the list, or directly me to me. Dates: June looks best, and we're settling in early enough to get whatever date we'd like. I'm leaning towards the weekend of June 3-5. Other options are pretty much the weekends in June. June 24-26 is Pou's wedding, and Laconia runs 10-18 June. That points it toward June 3-5. July creates conflicts with the July 4 weekend, and then the weather turns nasty hot and humid, something I personally want to avoid, but if y'all prefer July, we can do that. Places: I'm leaning toward one of several Kentucky State Parks, including Boonesboro State Park near Lexington, and Big Bone Lick State Park, selected for it's location south of Cincinnatti, and a name that's just too, too ripe for possibilities. I'm also looking at several KOA locations in Eastern KY. KOA will be more expensive overall, but they often have restaurants and catering on site, and have cabins as well. Costs for Kentucky State parks hovers around $10 a night for camping; depending upon the park it runs from $7.00 to $12.50 for 1999. KOA runs from $15 to $25 for camping, with the cabins hovering around $30. The Cabins are log cabins, with heat, sometimes AC, and more insulation than a tent. They have beds that you use your sleeping bags on, kind of like RCRVIII's cabins, but a little more sturdy construction. The Inquisition (what show! sorry... a Mel Brooks moment): What dates would you prefer? Do you prefer Cabin or Tent? Would you prefer a motel/hotel? Is this quite possibly the earliest these questions have been asked? What would you consider reasonable for a "whole cost" for the RCR -- 2 nights camping/cabin, one catered meal, and beer? Email me or the list; I'll get it either way, but if you use the list, it'll give the Ravi-bot something to do. J -- Joshua J.
