I've finally finished sorting through the 895 some-odd messages that piled up last week while Kristi and I toured northward in our post-RCR 2622 mile byway jaunt. Whoever suggested the route through PA 443->895->Wind Gap, thanks. It was a wonderful way to start our journey and I'd recommend those roads to anyone wanting to cross PA from near Gettysburg to the northwestern corner of NJ. >From there we spent the next day with my parents in Lafayette, NJ. Next we trekked through lower NY state to New Haven, CT to get free room and grub from my brother. Then it was off through Mass, up VT 100, stayed at a B&B in Stowe, crossed into Canada, hassled our way through customs, hung a left, hung another left to get back into upstate NY, had no problem with customs, crossed the Adirondacks, stopped back in at moms for more free food/bed, re-crossed PA to the southwest, overnight near Cumberland, MD, down through the WVA mountains, passed near Cass, crossed into VA, down through the Peaks of Otter, into Altavista, and fiddled our way back to Raleigh. At this point, I've seen more farmland than you can shake a stick at, and bounced over more frost heaves than any man should ever have to... Jim, thanks for a wonderful RCR. Ian, the coffee was exquisite. Martyn, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Everybody else, good to see you again/nice to meet you... Can't wait to do it again next year. Which brings me to... You guys are serious about this, aren't you. ;-) That'll teach me to let you put words into my mouth... It looks like there's a conspiwasy going on around here =8-0 ^^^^^^^^^^ <-- RCRIV location joke I suppose I could be up for it, but it's way to early to tell. I'm about to switch jobs within AT&T (Aug 1), and I don't know what my free time availability is going to look like. Let me get that straightened out, then I'll see what I can do. As far as commitments and dates go, I suspect location firmation will probably begin to take place in the early part of the year next year as it alwasy seems to have done in the past. In any case, the summer is not over by any stretch and I plan on exploring much more of the western NC/eastern TN/southern VA/WVA area before it's all over. I'll be keeping my eyes out for possible sites knowing that Turkey Tom is out. Thurmont gets my vote as a repeatable location, but I agree that we should try to mix it up a little each year. Bill McLoone, if you have an overwhelming desire tackle this task, just declare yourself Oompah, take the reins, and it's all yours (in the spirit of Oompahdom this option is open to anybody willing to commit to it first...) Certainly, but I think he was caging by doctors orders... I followed him down the BRP at last years RCR in a pissing thunderstorm while he was riding lovely Duc 807 i.e. Now go back to sleep ;-) -Brian -- `,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`, `,` Brian Casper System Administrator Extraordinare AT&T ASCC ,`, `,` brian.casper@att.com '95 Buell S2 Thunderbolt (919)380-4556 ,`, `,` DOD#1671 AMA#382057 HOG#0536684 PADI#9010460983 ,`, `,` "Never base vast plans on half-vast ideas." ,`, `,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,
