Here is what I have so far for day 3: (of 5) Team Suzuki Touring does the RCR Day 3: As usual, morning intruded upon my sleep with its usual insistence. I'd set my alarm for 8:30 so I could be up and moving in time for the 10am gathering. It didn't take long to splash water on my face, brush my teeth and head down to the restaurant. There was already a large number of Denizens lined up for breakfast and motorcycle conversations could be heard everywhere. I noticed some folks I hadn't seen (or remembered seeing) the previous night and jumped into some conversations with some others. After a breakfast of egg and cheese biscuits, I headed back to the room to prepare for the ride. I doned my leathers and loaded my tank bag with rain gear and the tail truck with some tools and medical supplies. At 10 sharp I pulled into the parking lot and started waiting. An impressive array of bikes crowded into the parking area, drawing plenty of attention from the tourists that were heading to the scenic railroad. There was quite a bit of confusion and people tried to decided who they wanted to ride with and where they would go. I took this opportunity to grab a photo of the assemblage and returned to the group just as people started mounting up. There was a *long* line of bikes headed through Cass shortly thereafter. Once out of Cass, the faster riders started drifting towards the front. I'd intended to follow Chris's ZX-11 but he was faster at working through the crowd than I was. At one point I came around a curve to see a person standing on the shoulder pointing at me. A fraction of a second later I realized it was Nick with his video camera. I tried to wave but I don't think I was fast enough. Matt Hur and I both got free of the pack at about the same time. When we got to US-219 at the end of WVa-66, Chris was no where in site. Mr. Bill on his CBX was sitting at the stop sign looking in both directions. I saw one of the Katana 1100s (Dave Lawrence as it turns out) pulled in at the gas station but Matt was determined to catch Chris. None of us knew which way he had gone, so Matt took a 50/50 chance and headed north. Mr. Bill and I took off in pursuit with the other Kat 1100 just behind. Matt was wasting no time and when we hit the first significant straight away Mr. Bill showed he was even more motivated by shifting the CBX into light speed mode and blasting past both of Matt and me. Somewhere in the next few miles Matt got back out front and decided we had made the wrong choice. (Later we found that Chris and the other fast group headed south.) While we were deciding what to do, Pops wheels up on the Beemer. He knew the area and mentioned some good roads for the ride. We all agreed and Pops lead off at a good clip. We were briefly slowed behind a pickup truck but all managed to clear it and blazed on up 219. At Huttonsville, we pulled into a gas station to determine our route from there. While I gassed up, the others went inside for Gatorade and candy bars. We decided that a loop heading back into Virginia would give us plenty of riding and still get us back to Cass in time to look at TheMoped's topend noise. Since Matt and Pops had already led the group, I was elected group leader and led the pack onto US250. To yet discussed: Surgery on TheMoped Sanjay starts on valves line of bikes for photo tim seiss demonstrations train & dinner massive drinking Muffy arrival more massive drinking Matt and I talk racing Chris brings me a beer Chris brings me another beer Chris brings me another beer Chris brings me another beer talking with Pops, Chris, HoJo, Tim, ??? about computers Chris too drunk to sleep Zone out at 3:30am Anyone think of anything else that I must add?
