I thought I would pass on some random thoughts that occurred to me during the trip and at the campsite. 1. Ed and Sandy GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*99. The food was great and beer was better (Although i had a little too much .-) ) 2. 2 days to go from NH to NC is not enough. We busted our butts getting down, but took 3 days going home. 3. The Blue Ridge Parkway lives up to the hype!!! On the way home on Sunday, we rode the BRP from Boone to Roanoke VA. About 150 miles. We were riding in front of a RainStorm. Every time we would stop for gas or a scenic overlook, the rain would catch up. We would hop on the bikes and get in front of the storm and stay drive. What a beautiful road!!! A must see!! 4. I81 through PA is awful. Rt 209 along the Delaware Water Gap is another nice rode. Not as twisty as BRP, but very scenic. 5. I81 through VA is as about as good as it gets for a superslab. 6. The High Country Cycle Camp is a great place! The owners are nice people, and I love that Harley Davidson (Dana?) the owners wife rides to clean the bathrooms with. (For those of you who weren't there, the HD in question is an AMF/HD golf cart) 7. After crossing the Mason-Dixon line, everybody is much friendlier than people in the Northeast. Of course this means that you cant run into a store in a hurry and get something. You first have to go through the ritual greeting dance: "Howdy, how you all doing today? Good! Oh, I'm fine, thank you. Some awful/good weather you got for riding today. Nice bikes, my husband has a (insert bike here) Where you all coming from? NH? Gee, where you headed? NC. Oh thats pretty country. We ride down sometimes to Boone. If you go to Boone, you have to go to this restaurant, the Daniel Boone Inn, they have an all you can eat family style menu. Allright, that'll be $.55 please for that Coke. You all have a nice day and have a safe trip. By now." They are the sweetest people, but I hope you are not in a hurry! 8. Exactly what kind of name is Bubba? Is it short for something? Does it actually say Bubba on their birth certificate? Is it some sort of traditional name? No offense to anyone named Bubba, but I was just curious. 9. Going north and crossing the Mason-Dixon line is culture shock after spending 5 days get acclimated to Southern Hospitality. I can imagine what southerners think of us Northerners! It must not be pretty. 10. Pa is pretty nice. My wife and I plan on spending some time in Sept in the York/Lancaster/Gettyburg area. 11. Route 33 and 222 and 22 in Pa are nice alternatives to the superslab. 12. Route 202 through Mass (Quabbin reservoir) is another nice road. 13. The people and the bikes gathered for the RCR was an interesting mix. Steve and his wife were a nice pair on the Ducati. Is it cliff or was it mike (i'm lousy with names) that dropped the K? Lets have all the gory details! 14. Ed, where were the awards for Male/Female Ironbutts? My wife and I did 1050 miles getting there, and were not even publicly ridiculed!! If you expect us to do that again, then we expect a bronzed pillow or something .-) Also, my wife wants an award for most miles on a single cylinder! .-) My wife and I enjoyed meeting you all, and are looking forward to the next DOD event. I guess that is enough ramblings for now.
