Return-Path: Posted-Date: Fri, 24 Jul 1992 08:29:09 GMT Newsgroups: rec.motorcycles Path: taco!gatech!destroyer!caen!uvaarpa!murdoch!dayhoff.med.Virginia.EDU!cdw2t From: cdw2t@dayhoff.med.Virginia.EDU (Cliff Weston) Subject: brand-new seca knocked over by ruffians Originator: cdw2t@dayhoff.med.Virginia.EDU Sender: usenet@murdoch.acc.Virginia.EDU Organization: University of Virginia, Department of Biochemistry Distribution: usa Date: Fri, 24 Jul 1992 08:29:09 GMT Apparently-To: sasmjw@unx.sas.com with the right coast ride just hours away, i'm toiling feverishly in the lab, partly to finish the bit i'm working on and mostly so my boss won't think i did next to nothing while she was gone (see, laurie, i work for a woman and she's not *too* much of a bitch :-) ). the so calls, calmly tells me i should come home, i ask why, she says there was a fight in the parking lot and my bike was knocked over. the four-wheeled squid-ride takes minutes, during which i imagine scenarios wherein i threaten/pummel the neanderthals what scuffed my moto, police restrain me, etc. yeah, right. the bike is upright when i get there, so all that swearing about not paying attention to the "what do i do if i drop my bike" thread was in vain. as if i can't smell it, several people tell me the bike leaked/spewed/gushed gasoline. i go over the smooth, curvy body, looking for flaws. right bar-end grated (used to be black), right peg broken, right mirror cracked, right engine guard grated (i thought they were a waste after i'd bought them, but now ...), right exhaust dented/grated (not the same as "denigrated"). none of the fiberglass touched the cement (!). it coughs a bit, then starts, warms normally, runs normally. my anger greatly exceeds the damage to my seven-week-old bike. cause: skinny grad student, getting beat up by two larger guys, wishes some barrier between his head and their fists. bike is in wrong place at wrong time. skinny gs runs around it, bullies reach over it, grab him, pull him and moto onto themselves (maybe that's how the fiberglass avoided the ground). an old v45 sits not six feet away, costs less than $4000, could have made an excellent barrier, not owned by denizen, apparently overlooked by skinny gs. oblegal: i have to go down to the police station and file a complaint. the fight had some 12-18 witnesses, all of whom can identify the hoodlums (hoodla?) who caused the horizontalness of tem. my court case will be tied into mike's assault case, ensuring witnesses will be there. any repairs must be claimed to my insurance, deductible applies unless the complaint sticks. obdented exhaust problem: i don't know if the dented can is restricting flow at all, but am guessing that they need to be matched. it's a 4-2 set-up; anyone know if it's a problem if one pipe's backpressure is different from the others? i'm leaving for the rcr anyway, so i'll read the answers next monday or tuesday. thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Cliff Weston '92 Seca II (Tem) | | DoD# 0598 [insert witty disclaimer here] | | | | "I love your post.
