Martyn's Opinion
General Comments
There's no clear winner for this motorcycle. Actually, it would be
more accurate to say there's no loser! There are several matched
pairs in the exact size for this bike -- one each from Avon, Dunlop, Metzeler,
Michelin, and Pirelli -- and which one you choose is totally up to you.
They're all good, and all have their special strengths. You can't
lose.

Me, I'd go for the Avons. I like the stability of the AM20 front,
and on a bike that's not capable of excessive lean angle (like the big
Intruder), it'd work very nicely indeed for me.
The other pair I would consider very seriously is the new ME-880 Marathon
from Metzeler. This promises to be an outstanding tyre indeed, and
I have no doubt you could fit this and be very happy indeed with it.
Likewise the IRC Wildflare WF-920 is very affordable and could make a good
choice.
Like I said, it's personal preference. The Metzeler (especially
the ME-880) has a very linear profile, whereas the Avon offers more highway
stability but is still responsive in cornering. I happen to prefer
the Avon profile, that's all. Oh, and the Avon is cheaper, too...
But if I owned a 1400 Intruder for a lot of miles, I'd probably try
several different choices and see which one I liked the best...
