There is absolutely no question that the Metzeler ME-Z1/ME-Z2 combination is the finest selection for this bike for almost all riders.  Unless something else clearly superior turns up, this is the one to go with.  The radials work very well on a stiff-framed bike like the Hawk, and the ME-Z2 on the back gives excellent traction and wear.  Of course, there's also Metzeler's famous wet traction, and the confidence-inspiring linear profile that helps you ride the bike to its full potential too.  This is just the best package for the bike.  Period.

Bridgestone's BT45 has now started to replace the well-proven BT35 in price as well.  As such, it's superb value for money.  While these won't provide as good a ride or handling as the more expensive radials, they are excellent tyres and reasonably priced too.

If you're doing more sport-riding, there are other combinations to consider.  A number of the good sporting tyres are available in appropriate sizes, and the clear winner is the Avon Azaro pair.  The only catch (aside from the price, of course) is that the AV35 front tends to wear somewhat unevenly, although this seems to be less of a problem on the Hawk than on heavier sportbikes; if that bothers you, the AV27 front makes an excellent combination with the Azaro rear.

The alternative is a pair of Metzeler ME-Z1's front and rear (a slightly wider 160/60ZR17 on the rear), but I would prefer the Avons.

No odd stuff from me here, although the Avon AV27/Azaro AV36 combination is certainly tempting.  The Metzelers are the best all-around selection, go for them.  I would.
