Gauss pistol (3), Zhodani

Autopistol, 12.7 mm

Body pistol, 6 mm

Stiletto, 15 cm

Due to several circumstances in my past career, I have come into posession of a matched pair of zhodani guass pistols (mostly as conversation centerpieces).  This is normally worn in a pair of shoulder holsters under the jacket.  (Obvious, obligatory bulges notwithstanding).

I also carry a 12.7 mm (11 round grip clip) chromed autopistol with integral laser des sights and sending unit (2m short range) to a pair of sunglasses (detailed further on) HUD unit, adding +1 for the laser and +2 for the HUD to any combat rolls....  This weapon is tricked, and I will detail it further when I have more time.

I am carrying a 15 cm stiletto style switchblade in a boot sheath. I am probably also about to start carrying a 6mm body pistol in a small of the back (belt) holster. No additional ammo with this one, it is for emergencies only.

Background Notes

Background (rough notes)

He's an ex-Scout, with no piloting.  He went thorugh six terms with no piloting.  Since he came out of college with honors, in the bureaucracy,  somebody flitted him around from place to place all the time.  Had several commendations for special missions, and managed to take two wartime missions (or were they covert ops?).  Got out in 1120, puttered around.  Pension of 12k a year, mustered out with 80k, and with a ship but Robin didn't take it -- an equivalent benefit to be named later.  Burned up about 10k goofing off, then happened about six months ago into some friends who he had known thorugh service or some other connection and picked up some freelance observation.  Contracted to "report back on these people," and so did a couple of hops here and there.  Last hop was here about a month ago.  He finished up his report and filed it, and just been lazing around.  As a result, he's burning through money fairly quickly.  So he wants to get out of here.  He's spent 20k since he's been here at the resort, and it's burning fast.

Evidently he's done some covert stuff, and also a language -- zhodani?  aslan?  vargr? -- and a general history interest.  Grav, blade, etc.  Perhaps he cut a few throats from behind.  He doesn't want to get into combat, but he's had many opportunities, so he's well trained if necessary, but that's for the grunts, not him.  "Artisan" becomes "Craftsman" -- to be defined later.  JoT shows he has resourcefullness.  Nearly killed twice, including in a wartime mission in 1108 -- up in the restlessness on the vargr border.

He's been here about 20 days, seen the sites, hired a vehicle and took a tour -- one guided, another unguided, including camping and so on.  Some relaxing, because have done lots of scout tyupe stuff, and jobs were observations, doing some nightclubbing.  Picked up a good tan on beaching, done some fishing, drinking drinks with little umbrellas, some casino gambling.  So he knows his way around here.

Usually wears nondescript civvies.  Normally carries backup pistol, and a pair of <swinging>, but no firearms here at resort.  He has most of his stuff in storage at the scout base.

He's interacted with the folks at the scout base a good bit.  They're very friendly.  In particular, there's Fred Gravellax(sp?), who has a real weakness for offworld drinks.  He's married a local girl, he's somebody who carouses a lot with those passing through, especially ex-Scouts.

At some point, Jaek married a scout.  He hasn't seen her in many years, so it's a paper marriage (more details later).  Married about 12 years ago, served together, parted, kept in touch through writing and electronics, lost track of her.  It was the sort of thing like, kind of madly in love with her, spent two years about ship, kind of parted, he doesn't know where he stands with it.  He wears a wedding ring, but doesn't act like it, just because it's like, "I was married, but it's a long story.

He tends to be a bit... evasive... in discussing employement details.  His embarrassment at never actually learning the ins and outs of piloting (considering the service he mustered from) is evident, but his overall competence with everything else is conveyed as a cooler, more laid back, been there, done that, attitude.

Jaek mustered with around 80,000 credits.  He burned through about 30,000 (which would include some observation and aquisition gear for his freelance 'business venture' and he have picked up about 25,000 in contracts and two to five contacts.  So, his net worth is about 75,000 right now less expenses here of 20,000, and he have not been paid yet by the 'noble' who hired him to 'watch' his significant other.

With this eclectic (to say the least) crew he has just met, it helps to know just how familiar he is with the more exotic members' races.  He knows of hivers, probably only by technical data (picture a lecturer in a huge auditorium laser pointing to a screen: "Hivers... Chapter one - biology blah blah blah").  Scouts tend to be more familiar with this general type of knowledge (being a contact oriented service anyway) than, say, Marines. [Not discounting of course, that given the advanced degree of technology, everyone would know the basic 'book facts' about different races and such...]

Given how his career went, he's no doubt come in contact with vargr (pro- and anti-Imperium factions). Hiver, K'kree, and Aslan are probably limited to knowledge from training and/or studies rather than practical experience. Sagan's probably the first hiver he's seen in person, but he already knows at least the basics about their physiology, general psychology, and quirks. (Sagan's sort of odd, though, even for a hiver.)

Oh, and since someone's bound to ask, no he doesn't know anything about cockroaches except they're nasty little insects that once on a ship are hard to remove.

But the girl....(one meter tall, bossy, etc) what is it he makes of her?  Would he be familiar with women who are only 1 meter tall?  He has never seen anything like her before, or heard of a race like that either.  It's a safe bet she's a minor human race of some sort, clearly, but what or where he has no idea.

This scout is embarassed that he does not know how to actually pilot a craft (since the scout service is 'known' for pilot training).  It was an interesting quirk of the dice that I had no opportunites for piloting, and as a result, he thinks other people might look a bit strangely at him if he told them he could not pilot.

So he will overcompensate by bluffing.  He will talk his way around a direct answer, and even pretend he knows what he is doing.  It is almost a phobia.  He has ship's boat (one I think) so his piloting is 0.  So he could, in a pinch, pull off a simple manuever (maybe, heh heh) but will act like he has all the confidence in the world.  I guess he would even 'buff' his resume, though his personality is such that he probably will not lie to anyone he likes / respects.
