The Kinunir
Unknown to anyone on the planet, the small patch of forest directly between
Lakes Janakra and Kharon is the site where the Kinunir task force, on a
secret mission heading to spinward of the Darrian subsector, crash-landed
on 180-1088. The ship still has very limited power, as she has been refueling
herself from rain and melt-water entering the scoops. She has enough power
to fire the missiles and run normal reduced-power life-support and routine
systems, and enough for one laser battery blast. She is facing south with
her nose upwards out of a slight depression. The starboard wingtip missile
turret is too deeply embedded in the woods, which have grown up around
the ship, to fire, and her right dorsal turret has already discharged some
years ago. The ship is basically undamaged, but the crew has disabled some
of the systems.
The captain of the ship escaped to the hillface to the west, but some
way up a laser battery blast from the ship caused a heavy landslide, and
he was killed from falling rocks. The body is still wearing a vacc suit,
and was carrying some important papers at the time of his death. No other
crew members escaped the ship.
Update: The ship was salvaged and recovered in 1117, whereupon it entered
service as the Anastasia.
